Apparently Swiss standards of living entails power outages too. Singaporeans was rudely treated to a disruption in electricity supply this morning from 1.18am to 1.56am. The disruption, which lasted for almost 40 minutes, reportedly affected more than 146,000 residents in Sembawang, Bedok, Tanjong Rhu, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Jurong, Geylang, Mountbatten, East Coast, Ang Mo Kio, Thomson, Bishan, Woodlands, etc.

Singapore Power and Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin tried to calm Singaporeans through various Facebook posts. According to SP Group, the disruption was caused from a partial loss of supply from power generation units. It has apologised for the inconvenience and ensured that its officers tried to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Online, some netizens appreciated the quick response but some were frustrated that this is happening to a supposedly first world country like Singapore. Singaporeans have been paying for hikes in water, electricity and conservancy charges... surely we are entitled to higher expectations? Granted, 40 minutes was a short while but given the amount of money we pay every month, Singaporeans should not be blamed for asking for more.

Why over-promise when they cannot deliver? Where is our Swiss standard of living?
